My decision to major in environmental science was not one that came easily. It wasn't because I doubted my passion for sustainability; rather, it was about everything else I was passionate about. However, learning more about how the environmental movement is tied into every other social movement made me a lot more confident in my decision. I study environmental science now because I see climate change as the biggest threat to my generation, and I cannot sit idly by as we endanger our futures. Sustainability is the one topic I never get bored of, and I know as my career is spent solving this challenge, I'll never run out of energy.
I am really passionate about decarbonization, but I started envisioning a career in energy specifically throughout the last year. Energy has been a huge concern in Texas for many years now, an issue that is only being exacerbated by AI-driven demand. Stopping growth is difficult, but we can change how that growth is powered, and that's where this program comes in. I hope to learn more about how the sourcing and distribution of energy in America works currently, and how this could work moving forward. I also know little about the specifics of what careers in the renewable energy field actually look like, and I'm curious to see where I might fit in best (data analysis, marketing, finance, etc).
I hope to help renewable energy projects get the financing they need to be implemented at scale nationwide. I want to be a part of the transition to net zero emissions, with a focus on making energy access more equitable. I hope my impact is twofold, helping both the environment and our nation's most vulnerable communities. Long term, I'd like to expand my scope to other countries as well, solving global energy poverty issues using renewable energy.
I LOVE basketball! Although I've always been too short to play, I've been watching both men's and women's basketball religiously for years, and could talk for hours about it (especially my hometown teams, the Dallas Mavericks and Wings!).
