In the summer of 2024, LevelTen Energy will host its fourth annual Energy Scholars Mentorship Program: a comprehensive initiative designed to address the energy sector’s opportunity gap by providing college students from underrepresented backgrounds with a fully-paid clean energy educational experience.
In collaboration with our stellar partner organizations and sponsors, including — Energy GPS, Google, Microsoft, Clearway, Gridstor, SB Energy, Portland General Electric and the University of Washington — the Energy Scholars Program provides an immersive curriculum for ambitious students looking to break into the cleantech space. The eight-week program enables students to gain exposure to the clean energy industry through structured learning, hands-on work, field trips, career panels, and mentorship. Students gain direct, hands-on experience, learning the most vital skills from the industry’s most accomplished, real-world practitioners. The program includes free housing, and are paid during the length of the program, so that it’s accessible to all of the selected Scholars.
The energy industry’s lack of diversity is well known. By directly supporting young professionals from diverse, under-represented backgrounds, we can ensure the renewables sector bridges its significant opportunity gap and benefits from a new generation of industry experts. By taking tangible and focused action, our industry can honor its values and vision of creating a better world — creating real change that will create a better, stronger energy sector. We have hosted the program since 2021, and so far, we’ve seen immense success. In fact, 70% of our scholars now hold full time jobs in the energy transition!
This summer LevelTen and our partners will host 16 scholars (6 more scholars than previous summers), each of whom are funded by our program sponsors. We are currently seeking more sponsors to support the expansion of this initiative.
With sponsors’ support, LevelTen Energy provides:
- Paid summer internships (monthly stipend)
- Travel and accommodation for each Scholar
- Program management and administration
- Educational programming, networking opportunities, and mentor programs designed to help Scholars enter the renewable energy industry after they graduate.
