About Performance Monitoring
What is LevelTen Performance Monitoring?
LevelTen Performance Monitoring is a platform for tracking the financial and operational performance of your power purchase agreements (PPAs); built for the corporate energy, sustainability, and finance teams managing a growing portfolio of renewable energy contracts.
It turns invoice-validated actuals and market-standard forecasts into credible portfolio reporting, including REC and GO delivery, intra-month accruals, automated NPV, and finance-ready exports.
Built inside the world's leading renewable energy transaction platform, it helps lean internal teams answer the questions their CFOs, sustainability leads, and stakeholders are already asking, with expert support available when they need it.
What problem does it solve?
Most energy buyers manage complex, multi-million-dollar PPA contracts by hand, usually in spreadsheets. Tracking financial performance and clean energy generation across one or more PPAs that way is time-consuming and error-prone, and it makes seeing the full picture difficult. LevelTen Performance Monitoring replaces that manual process with a single, centralized platform.
What are the core capabilities?
- Cashflow tracking: a single, unified dashboard for all your PPAs, with historical lookback from commercial operation date (COD) to present and downloadable data.
- REC volume tracking: invoice-based generation data that shows what actually settled, with no reliance on third-party data feeds.
- Cashflow forecasting: the latest industry-standard energy market forward curves, so you can understand both near-term and long-term expected performance.
- Invoice audit service: a monthly review of every invoice for the most common billing errors, based on years of invoice-review experience.
- Accrual calculations: intra-month accruals using fresh daily power prices, the developer-vetted 8760, and your selected forecast, to support accounting and finance workflows.
- Net present value: one-click NPV using leading market forward curves.
- Portfolio Analytics: year-over-year comparisons, generation vs. 8760 analysis, and flexible date filtering
Does it work for PPAs that LevelTen did not procure?
Yes. LevelTen Performance Monitoring works for any supported fixed-for-floating virtual PPA (VPPA), whether or not LevelTen ran the procurement, so you can track your entire portfolio in one place.
Is this available for both North American and European PPAs?
Yes. Performance Monitoring is available for PPAs in both North America and Europe.
Data and Forecasting
Where does the generation data come from?
Generation data in LevelTen Performance Monitoring comes directly from your monthly invoices, so the numbers reflect what actually settled. That's different from relying on a third-party data feed, which can be subject to outages, missing intervals, incorrect backfills, and discrepancies between the feed and the invoice. Invoice-based actuals give you a more reliable, more accurate record of portfolio performance.
How does the current month work if I don’t have an invoice yet?
For the current month, before an invoice arrives, the dashboard shows modeled figures: estimated generation, net cashflow, and REC volumes based on your selected forecast. Once the invoice arrives and is processed, those modeled figures are replaced with the actual settled numbers.
What forward curves are available for forecasting?
- North America: all cases of Hitachi, Aurora, and OTCGHSD
- Europe: Hitachi, and Aurora
What is the 8760 and why does it matter?
An 8760 is an hourly generation profile for a project, one value for each of the 8,760 hours in a year, used to model a PPA's expected output. LevelTen Performance Monitoring benchmarks your actual generation against your project's 8760, giving you a consistent baseline for measuring performance over time.
Why does LevelTen use P50 8760s in its forecasts? I've heard projects don't always hit those numbers.
You're right that actual production doesn't always match the 8760 exactly and that's a fair observation.
An 8760 is an hour-by-hour model of a project's expected annual energy production. The "P50" designation means it reflects the median expected output: a 50% probability that actual production comes in above the estimate, and 50% that it falls below. These models are built by the project developer using proprietary methodologies that incorporate site-specific weather data, equipment specifications, degradation, outage schedules, and factors like shading or wind wake effects.
Most importantly, your VPPA was structured and approved using these figures. The strike price, settlement volumes, and overall deal economics were all underwritten against the P50 8760, which makes it the right baseline for analyzing your agreement.
P50 8760s are also the accepted industry standard, used by project lenders, auditors, and counterparties across the market. That gives your analysis a recognized foundation that holds up to scrutiny from your leadership, finance team, and auditors.
We know the gap between forecast and actual can be frustrating. But anchoring to the same baseline your deal was built on, using a methodology the broader market recognizes, means you can always point to a rigorous, well-reasoned approach when explaining your VPPA performance.
Can I download the data?
Yes. All charts and data in the dashboard are available for download, including an Excel workbook that shows actuals and forecasts side by side.
How often are the curves updated?
Whenever the curve providers release updated curves. Aurora is updated quarterly, Hitachi bi-annually (Spring and Fall), and OTCGH is weekly.
Invoice Audit Service
What is the Invoice Audit Service?
The Invoice Audit Service is a monthly quality check on every invoice associated with your PPA. LevelTen reviews each one for the most common types of billing errors, including price discrepancies and generation anomalies, drawing on years of invoice-review experience across solar, wind, and solar-plus-storage contracts. It's included as part of LevelTen Performance Monitoring, not as a separate engagement.
What kinds of errors does the audit catch?
- Incorrect power prices applied to settlement intervals
- Generation data that doesn't match expected project output
- Generation reported for intervals when none was possible (for example, solar output during nighttime hours)
- Missing data across settlement intervals
- Monthly totals that don't reconcile correctly
- Other common billing error patterns identified through years of invoice-review experience
Has the Invoice Audit Service caught real errors?
Yes. LevelTen’s invoice review process has identified significant billing errors for customers, including a 60% invoicing error for a Fortune 100 customer that resulted in a material financial recovery. Errors like this are more common than most buyers expect, and catching them requires careful, consistent review.
How does the audit process work?
Each month, LevelTen reviews your invoice as part of the standard Performance Monitoring service. If an anomaly is flagged, we will reach out to discuss the finding and next steps. The process is designed to give you confidence that the numbers you’re reporting and paying on are accurate.
Supported Contract Structures
What contract structures does Performance Monitoring support?
- Fixed-for-floating VPPAs
- Price escalators
- Market price floors
- Non-settlement thresholds
- Mixed settlement structures
- Upside sharing provisions
- Basis differentials
- Wind and solar technologies
- Contracts in North America and Europe
What if my contract has more complex provisions?
LevelTen supports a wide range of contract structures, and custom solutions may be available for non-standard terms. Please reach out to your LevelTen contact to discuss the specifics of your contract. We would rather explore options with you than assume something isn’t possible.
Does Performance Monitoring work for contracts that haven’t reached commercial operation yet (pre-COD)?
Yes. You can be onboarded before your project comes online, with access to forward-curve forecasts from the time of PPA signature through the full development process. That gives you visibility into expected performance even before generation begins.
Getting Started
How long does onboarding take?
Onboarding typically takes between 2 and 6 weeks depending on the complexity of your contract but often less than that. Straightforward fixed-for-floating VPPAs are generally on the faster end of that range.
What does LevelTen need to get started?
- Basic contract details, including the executed VPPA, the contract start date, and the commercial operation date (COD)
- Monthly invoices as they're issued by your developer
- The 8760 generation profile used at contract signing, or an updated version if available
- Project technology specifications
Can Performance Monitoring be added mid-year?
Yes. Performance Monitoring can be added at any point during the contract year. Please speak with your LevelTen contact about timing and what that looks like for your specific situation.
Is it possible to purchase only one component of Performance Monitoring, such as just the invoice audit, historical data, or forecasts?
Performance Monitoring is offered as a complete product, and that's by design. Every feature in the dashboard (historical performance, forecasts, accruals, and the invoice audit) is built on a single settlement model that we configure specifically for your contract. That model is tailored to your exact PPA terms: your strike price, any escalators or floor prices, your settlement structure, and any other provisions that make your agreement unique.
Because everything in the dashboard draws from that same contract-specific foundation, the features aren't separable. They work together to give you a complete and accurate picture of how your PPA is performing. That integration is a core part of what makes Performance Monitoring valuable.
If you have questions about whether Performance Monitoring is the right fit for your needs, we're happy to walk you through what's included and how it maps to your specific situation. Reach out to your LevelTen contact to learn more.
